What are we doing? Why?

There’s an interesting thread on Etsy by MarkJamesDesign. The thread is about “planning beyond Etsy”, doing “something greater than Etsy with your business.”

That thread made me stop and think: What am I doing?
Hmmm… well, first, I’m doing what I love – Making Stuff. That’s always been a biggie for me.

Second, I’m selling that stuff (or trying to). This is partly because I was pretty much raised in the retail world and actually like retailing, and partly because there’s bills to pay.

Okay, so am I “planning beyond”? Am I on the path of “something greater”?
Well, there’s no particular need or desire to “make it big”, since I’m old -chronologically, anyway – and have no heirs to leave all my bazillions to. (BIG LOL on that one!) My life is simple, living expenses extremely low.

Right now I’m having fun building some web sites, and I’m loving this blogging thing. Not necessarily to grow my business, but mainly because the internet is pretty much my only business option. It’s all good – I’m quite fond of my computer and addicted to the internet.

So yes, one could say I’m expanding but, at the same time, I’m not trying for something greater. Being able to plod along at a comfortable pace helps maintain the enjoyability (is that a word?) of being an “online corner store”.

Thank you, MarkJamesDesign, for stirring up the grey matter! It’s a good thing for us to stop and ask ourselves now and then, what are we doing, why are we doing it, and how far do we want to take it.

EDIT 11/18/09: Well, it looks like MarkJamesDesign is no longer on Etsy. I’ve edited out all the links to their shop, since all you’d get is a page that say “uh oh…”

Sunday Ramblings

Good Morning World :-)

Started playing catch-up yesterday. Got a couple things listed in one of my Etsy shops, Jewelry Obsessed. One handcrafted choker necklace, and one vintage brooch. I love the brooch, hate to part with it, but have never worn it and probably never will. So what’s the point, eh?

It’s signed “Cameo Sterling”, which has been an unsolved mystery for me for years. I do know it’s from the 1940s, and that’s about it. Pat from Illusion Jewels shared that info with me years ago. She didn’t have any other info at the time. Checked their site yesterday to see if by some chance it had been added, but no. Anyone know anything about Cameo jewelry, would appreciate it if you’d satisfy my curiosity, lol.

It’s gorgeous! Absolutely love the metalwork, sort of a spider webby type of filigree. The green chalcedony cab really sets it off smartly.

Today will work at getting the minis and widgets on here, so I can show off my stuff, hah!

No, this blog isn’t going to be a bunch of marketing and promoting. *yawn* I can only handle so much of that – o.O – and I’m sure you feel the same. There’s lots of other stuff to ramble on about. Will share cool stuff I find on Etsy and eCRATER from time to time, though.

Talk to ya later :-)

Bluebirds and Cats and Work, Oh My!

What do you do, when the world won’t let you work?

When there’s bluebirds in the bird bath…

When the cats are landing on your head…

I’m so far behind this week, I’ll never catch up.

But y’know, when work takes over to the point where you miss out on Life, then Life becomes work and the Good Stuff is lost. Forever.

The web sites and shops and stores will still be there, after the bluebirds fly away and the cats curl up to sleep. In the meantime, I’m gonna go enjoy Life.
